Stones River Woodworkers Club Meeting Minutes
July 27, 2010, President Bobby Creighton called the meeting
to order and the Pledge to the Flag was said.
Announcements:
Norm Bennett had been hospitalized that day, so Dave Eubanks is filling in as Treasurer until
Norm returns.
Jay Hazel gave a little push for Burroughs-Ross-Colville (BRC) Lumber, in McMinnville. Two representatives
from that company were present at the meeting.
Alice Jennings had a brief hospitalization, from which she has been released
Old Business:
Out of 11 candidates
for wood working scholarships, 4 were awarded: Jay Hazel, Dale McLoud, Mary Nichols, and Ryan Taylor.
David Sapp has pen kits
available, pens to be sent to the military. He encouraged people to get turning, the goal has not been met.
New Business:
Woodline USA will award
a new 3.5 hp router to the person who turns the most pens for the military.
Steve Markham will be having the next Shop Tour.
The Old Time Farm
Festival, September 18th
and 19th will have booths available for sale of handcrafts.
Edwin Bell has air dried cherry and walnut for sale in Smyrna
.
At
the next meeting, on August 24, Harold
Baldwin will be doing a presentation on photographing hand crafted items. These will be catalogue quality shots.
People are encouraged to bring cameras (preferably digital) with the flash disabled, small items to photograph. The
images will be projected on a screen.
Following Show and Tell and a brief break, Wayne Sutter did a presentation which included a demonstration
of new tools available at Woodline, tinkering and tuning a hand plane, some new planes and their advantages, new turning tools,
the DADOMAX , for perfect fitting dados, and he gave away 4 circular saw blades, a router bit rack and a turning
tool rack for a lathe.
