Email Pictures of Two Show and Tell Projects.
I Would Love to Know the Answer to Questions I have had for several years at every meeting, I have looked around the room and wondered: Who are all these people? I know they love woodworking, or they wouldn’t be here, but that’s all I know. I don’t even know most of their names. It’s a shame that all of us are missing out on a great opportunity to make friends and to learn from those who also enjoy woodworking. To remedy this problem, the first meeting of 2022 will focus on getting to know the other members.
At least a week before the meeting on Jan. 25, each member is asked to take pictures of two or more projects that he or she has created to share at show and tell (if possible.) Email the file of the pictures to Jeanne Altstatt at altstatt1@comcast.net, so she can put them on a PowerPoint so we can see them during the show and tell portion of the Zoom meeting.
Part 1 of the Meeting: Introducing Yourself
1. Take 2 to 5 minutes to share their name and a few interesting facts. (For example: My name is Jeanne Altstatt. I am married to Marvin and have 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 7 nieces and nephews and 2 great nephews for whom I enjoy making Christmas presents. I am a retired community college tennis instructor, karate instructor, English Associate Professor, Department Head, and Dean.)
2. First, say your name and then tell how you got into woodworking and what aspect of woodworking you enjoy. You might include what is your favorite tool. (For example, I started woodworking 40 years ago when I took a continuing education class at Smyrna High School. I am fascinated by scroll saw compound cutting, and I like turning.)

3. First, say your name and then show and share with us your projects using the pictures on a PowerPoint that Sam has created. I know some of you are concerned that your projects do not measure up to the projects made by some of the older guys who have been doing woodworking all their lives. (Mine certainly don’t)! But be brave; there might be other club members who are interested in the same kinds of projects. It is very important to the success of the first meeting that we have as much participation as possible. One week before the first meeting, please, please, please email your pictures to: Jeanne Altstatt at altstatt1@comcast.net
4. Questions about the show and tell projects are welcome at any time. For example, My name is Jeanne Altstatt. “What finish did you use of that bowl?” Of course, Be sure to say your name before you ask each question.
Part 3 of the Meeting: Ask I Would Love to Know the Answer to Questions
5. Finally, ask: I would love to know the answer to questions. For example, “How do you fill cracks?” Write these questions down and be willing to ask them at the Zoom meeting.
The inaugural meeting for 2022 can be a great success or a sad failure. To guarantee success, please be willing to share information and email pictures of your projects. The people in the woodworking club want to meet you!
